Traditional wiper blades have a spring loaded metal frame that can apply uneven pressure on the rubber squeegee, resulting in streaking and uneven windshield clearing that can obstruct visibility and make driving dangerous. Winter driving can be even worse because the frames are prone to ice and snow buildup that can cause the rubber squeegees to lose contact with and fail to clear large areas of the windshield.
